Ensigna Construction is proud to continue its fire safety upgrade works at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, having been awarded the Phase 3 Fire Door Replacement contract following the successful delivery of Phases 1 and 2. This project is a vital part of the Trust’s strategy to enhance fire safety, resilience, and regulatory compliance across its occupied hospital estate.
Delivered in a live acute healthcare environment, the project involves the removal and replacement of high-performance fire-rated doorsets to circulation areas, stairwells, treatment spaces, and plant access points. Each doorset is manufactured and installed in accordance with BM TRADA Q-Mark third-party certification, offering FD30 and FD60 performance as required.
The scope includes:
· Dismantling and disposing of non-compliant or end-of-life doors and frames.
· Installing certified timber fire doors with upgraded seals, ironmongery, and intumescent protection.
· Undertaking full compartmentation upgrades and fire-stopping to adjacent walls and ceilings.
· Labelling, photographing, and registering each installed doorset for audit traceability.
· Maintaining site safety, infection control, and hospital access throughout the 8-week programme.
As part of our hospital delivery strategy, all works will be phased, tightly scheduled, and communicated with estates and clinical teams to avoid disruption to patients, staff, and services. Our operatives are enhanced DBS checked, trained in working within live healthcare environments, and supported by our in-house SHEQ team and Clerk of Works to ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
Ensigna’s continued involvement at Chelsea & Westminster reflects our deep experience in healthcare refurbishment and passive fire protection. We are proud to support the Trust’s compliance with HTM guidance, the Building Safety Act, and ongoing commitment to patient safety.
