Norbury Library in London is a listed building. Constructed in the 1930s, it has been recognised for its architectural and historical significance. The library underwent extensive refurbishment to restore its original features, including parquet flooring and a vaulted ceiling. The refurbishment was a two-phase heritage project aimed at modernising the facility while reintroducing its original architectural features and enhancing the upstairs community room. The scope included constructing a new lift extension, modernising the café area, installing new access ramps, and upgrading mechanical and electrical systems, accompanied by new layouts, fittings, and fixtures, emergency lighting, and comprehensive interior decoration to bring the building up to modern standards.
The Challenges
The renovation of Norbury Library was meticulously planned and executed to minimise public disruption and adhere to the 22-week schedule, ensuring timely reopening. Regular updates and transparent notifications addressed any concerns promptly. Our team demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, adjusting schedules, workflows, and priorities to manage the library’s dynamic environment effectively.
